About me
Hello. I’m Liam Betsworth.
I am a technologist, a founder, and a man who recently decided that having a stable salary was boring.
I run Creu Labs, a venture studio in South Wales dedicated to building valuable technology businesses, fixing the local tech ecosystem, and proving that you don’t need to move to London to build a world-class product.
The Official Bio
If you are an investor or my mother, please read this section.
I have spent over a decade in the tech industry, navigating the space between deep research and shipping products. I hold a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, and I previously served as the CTO of AMPLYFI, where I helped scale product and engineering teams, turning complex data into market intelligence.
I have built products, led teams, and written code that is still running in production today (hopefully). Now, I am building in public with Creu Labs, creating a portfolio of software products while sharing every win, loss, and painful lesson along the way.
The Real Bio
For everyone else.
My career path has been… eclectic.
I’ve been an Academic: I spent years researching "Performative Technologies," which is a fancy way of saying I made computers do cool things in heritage sites.
I’ve been a Fashion Mogul (Briefly): I co-founded Lifesick Clothing. We didn't take over Paris Fashion Week, but I learned a lot about building a brand.
I’ve been a Global Nomad: My work has taken me to IBM Research in India, and to conferences across Israel, South Africa, Canada, the U.S., France, and South Korea. I’ve seen how tech ecosystems operate on four different continents. It taught me that innovation looks very different in Seoul than it does in San Francisco (or Swansea).
I’ve been a CTO: At AMPLYFI, I learned how to develop a product vision, lead software engineers, manage information security, manage budgets, and manage the existential dread of trying to find product market fit.
Why this Blog?
I started this blog because I was tired of the silence. The Welsh tech scene is full of talent, but it's humble and risk-averse.
I wanted to create a space where I could be honest about building a business here. I write about the code (because I’m still a nerd), the capital (because we need more of it), and the chaos of trying to build a venture studio from scratch.
I don’t have all the answers. But I do have a lot of opinions.
